Ein schwedisch-griechischer Dokumentarfilm über den Rechtsruck in Europa und über die Menschen, die sich den Nazis in den Weg stellen. Wer sind »die« Antifaschist*innen und was ist Antifaschismus? Diesen Fragen wird anhand bestimmter Ereignisse der letzten Jahre in Griechenland und Schweden nachgegangen. Der Film zeigt den Aufstieg der faschistischen Partei »Goldene Morgenröte« (»Chrysi Avgi«), die für zahlreiche Morde in Griechenland verantwortlich ist, er behandelt den Mordanschlag auf den linken Fußballfan Showan Shattak in Malmø und lässt den inhaftierten Antifaschisten Joel zu Wort kommen. Joel sitzt seit 2013 im Gefängnis in Schweden, da er an der Verteidigung einer antifaschistischen Kundgebung beteiligt war. Die Angreifer gehörten der »Nordischen Widerstandsbewegung« (Nordiska Motståndsrörelsen) an, die derzeit als größte und gefährlichste Naziorganisationen in Schweden gilt. »The Antifascists« beleuchtet die Motivation und die Arbeit antifaschistischer Gruppen und hält die Zuschauer*innen dazu an, gängige Vorstellungen vom »Antifaschismus« zu hinterfragen.
Vor dem Film wird es ab 20:00 Uhr einen inhaltlichen Input geben, bei dem ein Aktivist über die Situation in Schweden berichten wird.

A Swedish-Greek documentary film about the legal pressure in Europe and the people who stand up against the new wave of Nazis. Who are actually the antifascists and what does it antifascism really stand for? This question is examined in the light of certain events in the recent years in Greece and Sweden. The film investigates the rise of the fascist party »Golden Dawn« (»Chrysi Avgi«), which is responsible for numerous murders in Greece in addition to the attempted murder of the left-wing football activist Showan Shattak in Sweden and the imprisonment of antifascist Joel. Joel has been in jail since 2013 after the defended a rally against Nazis. The attackers belonged to the »Nordic Resistance Movement« (»Nordiska Motståndsrörelsen«) which is regarded as the largest and most dangerous Nazi organization in Sweden. »The Antifascists« tried to track the history along with the theoretical background of antifascism and shows what it really means to be an antifascist.
Before the film, there will be an input from 8pm onwards, where an activist will report on the situation in Sweden.
